The kitchen itself I remember from a child's eyes as being HUGE! Of course as an adult I realize the scope of those measurements isn't exactly accurate. However at that time the busy kitchen was a wonder of smells, chatter, swinging doors and activity. On the wall hung a brown clock, it was plastic and made to look like a small grandfather clock. I still have that clock today it hangs on my own kitchen wall. There was also a plaque over the door, a blessing was written on the plaque. I remember it so clearly it said "Lord, may my words be gracious and tender today, for tomorrow I may have to eat them". This plaque was no small request from a family ruled by a majority of fiery Irish women.
My grandmother was nothing less then magic. She was an angel in my eyes. Today in spirit she still is my angel,my friend, my confidant, my hero and guardian. She instilled in me an acceptance and a belief in things not easily explained, a love of God as I understood him (or her) to be, and a dream of family, community, sharing, happy endings, magic, and fairy tales.
Today I am much older and the real world is no longer full of sunny days in grandma's kitchen. However today I have my own sunny kitchen, I still believe in magic, more specifically I believe in her magic and the magic she inspired in me. Her spirit still watches over me and at times even provides inspiration and suggestions for my own magic. She is the one who filled my head with memories of kitchens and blessings. Through those memories a seed was planted and I looked into creating those who are now Wyrd Wytch Wayz Kitchen Witches.
Kitchen Witches are magical dolls or poppets with a history of European descent. They are traditionally hung in the kitchen to help increase productivity, for protection of the home, to ward away ill intent, and to bring good luck to the home. Wyrd Wytch Wayz Kitchen Witches are all handcrafted and unique and are made with special intent and focus from a wooden spoon. Their faces and blessings are wood burned onto the spoon. The wooden spoons are in honor of those same wooden utensils my grandmother used. They are wearing handmade clothing made from felt, yarn, and ribbon with cloth flowers. They have wood beads for shoes, Bells on their hats, and a specially chosen gem or crystal on their necks to enhance their magic. Bells have many popular uses including to clearing the air of any negative energy. Their brooms are also handmade from wood and besom bristles. The Besom is also a very symbolic magical tool used to sweep away negative or sweep in positive energy. Each of Wyrd Wytches' Kitchen Witches are unique and named after Kitchen herbs, foods, or other special kitchen terminology. They are handmade with special blessings for your home hidden under their hats. They have wire loops on their backs to hold them on the wall. It is my Intent Wyrd Wytch Kitchen Witches are created with this powerful memory as a focus for the emotion I hope they provide. It is my intent they will inspire they same joy and love they are created with.
